May dad always jokes with me that I have had more jobs than anyone else he’s ever known. That’s probably true too, since I have had my share.
I thought it was about time that I list them all, for posterity, before memory fails me. Oddest thing of all, I’ve never been fired from a job, although I have been laid off twice. I usually just move on to the next thing for one reason or another. Moving has played a part in a lot of them, for instance. Also, I like the fact that so many of the jobs in my work history taught me skills that I use in my current career; namely all of the media, marketing and advertising jobs I’ve held over the years.
Jobs I have held:
- Paperboy
- Lawnmower/landscaper for hire
- Clerk/gas jockey
- Lifeguard/swimming instructor
- Newspaper Reporter/Photographer
- Wood chipper operator
- Marketing rep
- Bike courier
- Radio station intern
- Construction laborer (x4)
- Telemarketer
- Valet parker (lasted one day)
- Bank teller
- Bike store salesperson
- Newspaper advertising rep
- TV news assistant
- TV station marketing rep
- TV commercial producer
- Film production assistant
- Film/TV actor extra
- Courier driver
- Marketing Manager
- Business owner/social media consultant (currently)
- Director of community relations (currently).
Inevitably, I’ll be updating this as I remember even more of them. It’s important to note that any time I was doing more than one job at a time, I used a /slash, whereas if I changed jobs while at the same employer, I listed the separately (ie. TV station jobs).
So, is this a long list, or average? I’m tempted to “tag” a few folks and make a meme out of this, but I’ll spare everyone.

Interesting. You should colorcode and plot all these on a diagram and use solid and dotted lines to relate one job to another.
